SYMPTOMS

The Inetinfo.exe process may stop responding. If Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000 symbols are installed, a Dr. Watson log file shows the following stack:

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the message that is being processed is corrupted. A stack overflow in the Mailmsg.dll file might be the reason that the Inetinfo.exe process stops responding and that you may receive event ID messages that point to problems with disks or controllers.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
