PDH Gives Incorrect Results for Nonnumeric Counter Instances (311500)

    • the operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

This article was previously published under Q311500

SYMPTOMS

When you are using the Performance Data Helper library DLL (Pdh.dll) under Windows NT 4.0, you may find that the total disk counter instance counter (_Total) is not the sum of the individual counter instances. This happens when you use a version of PDH.dll later than 5.0.

CAUSE

When nonnumeric counter instances (like _Total) are used, PDH queries the 0 instance of the counter.
