Bandwidth Rules Are Not Available in Cache Mode (311488)

SYMPTOMS

If you install Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000 in Cache mode, Bandwidth rules are unavailable. There is a documentation error in the ISA Server online documentation. The "Bandwidth Rules" section incorrectly states:

Bandwidth rules are available in all installation modes.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Bandwidth rules are available in Firewall and Integrated modes, but not in Cache mode.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem and use the Bandwidth rules feature, reinstall ISA Server in either Firewall or Integrated mode.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
