SYMPTOMS

NetMeeting version 3.01 for Windows 2000 clients may not be able to connect to a NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing (RDS) host if the account password is over 12 characters in length.

CAUSE

This problem can occur when the Windows 2000 user accounts exist in a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 domain, and the domain controllers (DCs) are using Windows NT version 4.0 Service Pack 5 or earlier.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, upgrade your DCs to Windows NT version 4.0 Service Pack 6a, or use a password that is less than 13 characters in length.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
