OL2000: Cannot Publish Internet Free and Busy Information to an FTP Site (311439)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to publish your free and busy information to a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) site, you may receive the following error message:
An error occurred publishing your Internet Free/Busy data.
Failed to create the file at URL: "ftp://User:Password@machine.isp.domain/your.site/yourFolder/YourName.vfb".

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) that is entered in Outlook is incorrect; when Outlook issues a STOR command to write the file, the write does not work and you receive the error message that is described in the "Symptoms" section of this article.

If you receive this error message, closely check the URL that is entered in Outlook to determine whether it is correct. If you can successfully use Microsoft Internet Explorer to transfer by using this path, it is likely that the path is not precisely the path that raw FTP expects.

Log on to the FTP server from a command prompt by using the FTP command. Check closely to make sure that the exact path of the directory matches your Outlook configuration; you may find that the FTP site actually locates your directory under additional layers or subdirectories.

Under a Network Monitor capture, you may see

STOR /yourFolder/YourName.vfb

followed by a response of:

550 /yourFolder/YourName.vfb: Access is denied.

The user configured Outlook with:

ftp://User:Password@machine.isp.domain/yourFolder/YourName.vfb

The correct path is:

ftp://User:Password@machine.isp.domain/your.site/yourFolder/YourName.vfb
