OLEXP: May Not Be Able to Switch Identities When Using Outlook Express Version 6.0 (311399)

SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to add multiple identities in Outlook Express, the Outlook Express window may completely disappear. If this behavior occurs, you cannot use Outlook Express.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods:
  • End the Msimn.exe process:
    1. Start Task Manager by right-clicking an open space on the taskbar, and then clicking Task Manager on the shortcut menu.
    2. In Task Manager, look at the active processes that are running on the computer; locate the process named Msimn.exe.
    3. End the Msimn.exe process.
    -or-

  • Shut down and restart the computer.
After you use one of these workarounds, you can start Outlook Express again from the Start menu.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior also occurs if you add another user to the computer, and that user attempts to add a second identity in Outlook Express; when this behavior occurs, use the procedures in the "Workaround" section of this article. This behavior only occurs during the first attempt to switch identities. After that, the user can switch among identities.
