BUG: Analysis Manager Does Not Support HTTP or HTTPS Connections (311310)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services

This article was previously published under Q311310
BUG #: 12507 (plato7x)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft SQL Server Books Online under the "How to register an Analysis server" topic, a statement is made that it is possible to register an Analysis Server in Analysis Manager using HTTP or HTTPS.

That documentation is incorrect because Analysis Manager does not currently support connections based on HTTP or HTTPS.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

You use HTTP or HTTPS connectivity to query an Analysis Server, but you do not use HTTP or HTTPS connectivity to manage a server. No error message occurs when you enter "http://Server_Name" in the Register Analysis Server dialog box; however, a connection is not established and the Analysis Manager User Interface stops responding. Note that this error message may occur:
Could not connect to repository because it is being migrated. User on computer has locked 'clientalive'.
