SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Internet Explorer, you may receive the following error message:
Msmsgs has caused an Invalid Page Fault in Kernel32.dll.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you have an older version of MSN Instant Messenger installed on your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Click the Install/Uninstall tab, and then click MSN Messenger Service.
  3. Click Add/Remove, and then click Yes.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Start Internet Explorer, and then connect to the following MSN Web site:
  6. Click Download Now.
  7. Click Run this program from its current location.
  8. When the download process is complete, read the information that is provided, and then click Yes.
