Winsock Proxy Causes an Error Message in Windows XP (311202)

SYMPTOMS

If the Winsock Proxy component of Microsoft Proxy Server version 2.0 is installed in your computer, you may receive the following error message:

Explorer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If the error message is still displayed and you want to see the data that the error report contains, click the click here link at the bottom of the message box. You then see error signature information that may be similar to the following:

CAUSE

This issue is caused by the Winsock Proxy client. This dynamic-link library (DLL) is not part of Windows, and is not fixed in any Windows build.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the ISA Firewall client that is included with Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000.
