Error Message Cites Inability to Find Ils.dll After You Download NetMeeting 3.01 (311139)

SYMPTOMS

After you download NetMeeting version 3.01, you may receive the following error message:
Error creating process C:\Windows\SYSTEM\Regsvr32.exe/s C:\Windows\SYSTEM\Ils.dll. Reason: The system cannot find the file specified.

CAUSE

This behavior can be caused by a damaged or missing Regsvr32.exe file or Ils.dll file.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, extract a new copy of the Regsvr32.exe file from the Windows 98 installation media, rename the Ils.dll file, and then reinstall NetMeeting.

To extract a new version of Regsvr32.exe

  1. Make sure that you have the Windows 98 Second Edition CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive, or that the files from the CD-ROM are available on your computer. These instructions assume that the files are on the CD-ROM.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type sfc.exe, and then click OK to start the System File Checker utility.
  4. In the Select an option and click Start dialog box, click Extract one file from installation disk.
  5. Type regsvr32.exe, and then click Start.
  6. In the Restore from box, type the path to the CD-ROM drive. For example, if your CD-ROM is drive D, type d:\win98.
  7. In the Save file in box, type c:\windows\system, and then click OK.
  8. Quit the System File Checker.

To rename the Ils.dll file

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. In the Find Files dialog box, under Named, type Ils.dll, and then click Find Now.
  3. After the file is found, right-click Ils.dll, and then click Rename.
  4. Rename the file to Ils.old, and then close the Find Files dialog box.

To reinstall NetMeeting

  1. Download NetMeeting from the following Microsoft Web site:
