"Required DLL File, Idle.dll Was Not Found" Error Message Appears When Starting Windows (311103)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start your computer, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
Required DLL file, idle.dll was not found.

CAUSE

This error can occur when you have Yahoo Messenger (any version) installed on your computer.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.


To work around this problem, delete the Yahoo Messenger registry key. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\ and locate the Yahoo Pager value in the right pane.

    NOTE: The Value for this key should appear as C:\Program Files\Yahoo\Pager\Ypager.exe.
  4. Right-click this key, and then click Delete.

    When the confirmation message appears, click Yes.
