Error Message: Error SU0350 Setup Was Unable to Display the Nondisclosure Agreement (311009)

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade or install any of the products that are listed at the beginning of this article, you may receive the following error message:
Error SU0350
Setup was unable to display the Nondisclosure Agreement. Setup will now close.
The computer may then shut down.

CAUSE

This issue can occur for any of the following reasons:
  • Setup could not find the License.txt file.
  • Setup could not open the License.txt file.
  • Setup could not read the License.txt file.
  • The cycle redundancy check (CRC) or checksum value of the License.txt file does not match the value in the Layout1.inf file.
  • The computer is running low on memory.
  • The version of the License.txt file in the C:\Windows\Help folder is different from the version of the License.txt file in the C:\Windows folder.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method.

Computer Does Not Shut Down After Error Message

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. In the Search for files or folders named box, type license.txt.
  3. In the Look in box, type c:\, and then click Search Now.
  4. In the list of found files, right-click the License.txt file that is located in the C:\Windows\Help folder, and then click Rename.
  5. Type license.xxx, and then press ENTER.
  6. In the list of found files, right-click the License.txt file that is located in the C:\Windows folder, and then click Copy.
  7. In the list of found files, right-click the License.xxx file that is located in the C:\Windows\Help folder, and then click Open Containing Folder.
  8. On the Edit menu in the C:\Windows\Help window, click Paste.
  9. Close all open windows.

Computer Shuts Down After Error Message

If the computer shuts down after you receive the error message, use the following steps:
  1. Restart the computer, and then press and hold down the CTRL key until the Microsoft Windows 98 Startup menu appears on the screen.
  2. Choose Safe Mode Command Prompt Only from the Startup menu, and then press ENTER.
  3. At the command prompt, type the following line, and then press ENTER:

    copy c:\windows\license.txt c:\windows\help

    When you are prompted to overwrite the file, press Y, and then press ENTER.
  4. Restart the computer in normal mode.
