SUMMARY

This article describes how to set up Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) authentication in Outlook Express 5.02 Macintosh Edition.

MORE INFORMATION

Some SMTP servers require that the e-mail program log on to the server before the server can send mail from that program. The first version of Outlook Express Macintosh Edition that supports this functionality is version 5.02.

To set up SMTP authentication, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
  2. Click the e-mail account, and then click Edit.
  3. Under SMTP server, click Click here for advanced sending options.
  4. Click to select the SMTP server requires authentication check box.
  5. If the SMTP server requires different credentials from the credentials that the incoming mail server requires, click Log on using, and then type your SMTP server account ID and password in the appropriate boxes.
  6. Click the small button in the upper left corner of the window to close the window.
  7. Click OK.
