FP2002: "Fatal Exception 0E" Error Message During FrontPage Installation (310855)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft FrontPage 2002, the installation process starts, but after the Windows Installer Preparing to install dialog box appears, you may receive the following error message:
A fatal exception 0E has occurred at memory location.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if certain drivers or programs (which vary, depending on your hardware and configuration) are running in the background when you attempt to install FrontPage.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Selective Startup

  1. Click Start, and then click Shut Down.
  2. In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.
  3. Press and hold down the CTRL key until the Startup menu appears.
  4. Select Step-by-step confirmation. Be sure to allow no system files to load.
  5. After Windows starts, install FrontPage 2002.

Method 2: Install from Your Hard Disk

  1. Copy the contents of the FrontPage 2002 CD-ROM to your hard disk, keeping all of the folder names intact.
  2. Install FrontPage from the hard disk:
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Run dialog box, click Browse.
    3. In the Browse dialog box, browse to the location of the FrontPage files that you copied in step 1, and then click Open.
    4. In the Run dialog box, click OK.
    5. Follow the instructions of the Installation Wizard to complete the installation.
