SYMPTOMS

When you use the Visual C++ 6.0 debugger on a multi-processor computer that has Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 installed, the Visual C++ development environment may stop responding.

CAUSE

The Visual C++ 6.0 debugger stops responding because of a bug in the debugger logic. This problem occurs when the debugger responds to debugging events that are sent from Windows 2000.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.
