SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start Microsoft Midtown Madness, the game may quit unexpectedly after the startup movie finishes.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if a third-party vehicle has been added to the Midtown Madness folder.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the following methods, as necessary, in the order presented.

Remove Third-Party Vehicles

Remove all third-party vehicles from the Midtown Madness folder to another folder, and then try to start Midtown Madness. If the issue persists, use the following method.

Uninstall and Reinstall

To uninstall and then reinstall Midtown Madness, follow these steps:
  1. In Windows Explorer, browse to the Midtown Madness folder.
  2. Right-click the Players folder, point to Send To, and then click My Documents.
  3. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

  5. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Midtown Madness, and then click Add/Remove.
  6. When prompted to remove Midtown Madness, click Yes, and then click OK.
  7. Insert the Midtown Madness CD-ROM into your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
  8. Click Install, click Continue, click Accept, and then click Continue.
  9. In the Path box, change the suggested path for installation.
  10. Follow the prompts to complete the installation, and then click Reboot, or click Exit if Reboot is not an option.
  11. In Windows Explorer, copy the Players folder from My Documents to the new Midtown Madness folder. When prompted to replace the existing folder, click Yes to All.
