SYMPTOMS

When you open or work with a newly created file in Microsoft Publisher, you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Publisher has encountered a problem and needs to close.
When you click To see what data this error report contains, click here, you see an error signature that is similar to the following:
Mspub Caused an Invalid Page Fault in Module Mlang.dll

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Replace the Mlang.dll File

If you are using a file that was created in a version of Publisher earlier than Microsoft Publisher 2002, try replacing the Mlang.dll file. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
  2. Locate and rename the file extension of the Mlang.dll file to a non-standard file extension such as .old
  3. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Internet Explorer, click Add/Remove, click Repair the current installation of Internet Explorer, and then click OK.

Method 2: Install a Later Version of Microsoft Internet Explorer

If you are using a file that was created in Publisher 2002, install Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 or Internet Explorer version 5.5 Service Pack 2. To download Internet Explorer, see the following Microsoft Web site:
