OL2000: DLL Initialization Error Occurs in Outlook 2000 After You Upgrade to McAfee VirusScan 6.0 (310413)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your computer to McAfee VirusScan 6.0, you may receive the following error message two to three minutes after you start Outlook 2000:
Outlook.exe. DLL initialization failed. Initialization of c:\winnt\system32\compstui.dll. Process is terminating abnormally.
This behavior may occur on a computer that runs Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0 Service Pack 6.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, disable Exchange Scan in Outlook 2000:
  1. Start Outlook 2000.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. Click the Other tab, and then click Advanced Options.
  4. Click Add-In Manager.
  5. Click to clear the Exchange Scan check box.
  6. Click OK.
