SYMPTOMS

When you start Outlook 2000, you may receive the following error message:
C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\AddIns\Outback.dll is not a valid Office add-in.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this behavior, delete the Microsoft.Outlookbackup.1 key in the registry:
  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
  2. Locate the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\Microsoft.Outlookbackup.1

  3. Select the Microsoft.Outlookbackup.1 key, and then click Delete on the Edit menu.
  4. Quit Registry Editor.
