WORKAROUNDWarning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. For SharePoint Portal Server 2001- Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
- Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
- On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Value name: Content Type
Data type: REG_SZ
Value data: application/vnd.visio.xml - Quit Registry Editor.
- Add your Visio documents to the workspace. Visio documents that existed before you create this registry entry will not open correctly. You must export these documents outside the workspace (for example to your desktop), and then re-add them to the workspace.
If you do not add this registry key on the SharePoint Portal server, users who connect to the server by means of the portal and select any files with a .vxd extension will only see XML text.
SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack 1 fixes this problem by creating this registry key during installation.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack 1.
