FIX: Writeback from OLAP 7.0 Client to Analysis Services Cube Results in Error Message (308969)

SYMPTOMS

If you try to initiate a writeback transaction from a Microsoft SQL Server OLAP 7.0 client to a write-enabled Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services 2000 cube, when the transaction is committed this error message occurs:

OLAP server error: The operation requested failed due to network problems.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you can upgrade the client components from OLAP 7.0 to Analysis Services version 8.0. To upgrade the client components, run the Ptsfull.exe program on the client computer. The Ptsfull.exe program is located on the Analysis Services CD in the MSOLAP\Install\Pts folder.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services Service Pack 2.
