NetDDE May Cause Logon Audit Events Not to Succeed (308877)

SYMPTOMS

Windows 2000 may not audit a logon event if a Network Dynamic Data Exchange (NetDDE) program is started. This problem might occur with several deferent NetDDE programs, but occurs consistently if the Clipbrd.exe (Clipboard Viewer) program is started.

If the "Shut down system immediately if unable to log security audits" security policy is set to Enabled, you may receive a "Stop 0xC0000244" error message on a blue screen.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
