Error Message Cites Event 20106 and "Incorrect Parameter" When You Add RRAS Routing Interface (308802)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use Routing and Remote Access (RRAS) to add a routing interface in Windows 2000, Event Viewer may display the following error message about Event 20106:

Unable to add the interface Internal with the Router Manager for the IP protocol. The following error occurred: the parameter is incorrect.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, see whether the relevant RRAS server is configured only for local area network (LAN) routing:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Routing and Remote Access.
  2. Right-click the relevant RRAS server, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the General tab, and see whether Local routing only (LAN router) is selected.
If the server is configured only for LAN routing, you can ignore the event. In LAN-only mode, the IP Router Manager does not accept the internal interface because the internal interface is used to govern the behavior of wide area network (WAN) interfaces that dial in to the network.
