This article was previously published under Q308751
BUG #: 354815 (SHILOH_BUGS)

SYMPTOMS

When you run a SQL Profiler trace, you may occasionally experience both of these problems when you save the output file to a remote location:
  • Any attempt to connect to a computer that is running SQL Server from within SQL Profiler fails with this error message:
Server does not exist or access denied.
  • Any attempt to write to an output file fails with this error message:
The specified network name is no longer available.

CAUSE

When SQL Profiler tries to write to an output file that is no longer available, Profiler does not release its locks, which results in a deadlock.
