PI: How to disable the Automatic Update Feature (308588)

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Picture It! includes an automatic update feature. You may notice that when this feature runs, your computer may freeze or the program may try to update itself, even though, you have turned the option off.

You may also notice that the computer will try to dial your internet service provider, connect to the Internet and download any updates.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the registry key which turns off the Update Feature has not been correctly changed or edited.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, disable the feature from the options menu. To do this, follow these steps.
  1. Open Picture It!
  2. Open a picture.
  3. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  4. Clear the Check for updates Online option.
