This article was previously published under Q308493

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Microsoft Project 4.0 for the Macintosh under Mac OS 9.x, you receive the following error message:
Microsoft Setup was not completed successfully
When you click OK, Setup quits.

WORKAROUND

To resolve this issue, copy the contents of the Microsoft Project disks to your hard disk, and then run Setup from the copy on the hard disk.

NOTE: All of the disks must be copied to subfolders of the same folder. There must be subfolders on the hard disk that match the name of disks being saved.

If you have the disks on a CD, you need to copy all of the disks to the hard disk, to subfolders within a single folder, and the subfolders must be renamed to match the names of the disks.

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Create a new folder on you hard disk.
  2. Insert the first Microsoft Project disk (floppy disk or CD), and then note the name of the disk.
  3. Create a subfolder inside the new folder on your hard disk, and then rename the subfolder to match the name of the inserted disk.
  4. Copy the contents of the inserted disk to the subfolder of the same name.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 until you have copied all of the Microsoft Project disks to the hard disk.
  6. Run Microsoft Project Setup from the copy on the hard disk.
