BUG: IIS 5.1: Reboot of Windows XP Professional Shuts Down the Computer Without a Warning that Other Users Are Still Logged On (308184)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Information Services version 5.1

This article was previously published under Q308184

SYMPTOMS

In the Microsoft Windows XP Professional environment, if you configure the server in a workgroup, you can use the Fast User Switching feature. This permits multiple simultaneous users to be logged on to the computer locally. However, if multiple users are simultaneously logged on to the computer with Fast User Switching, and one user reboots the server by using reboot %Servername% in the Internet Information Services (IIS) Microsoft Management Console (MMC), the operating system reboots the computer without displaying a warning that another user is logged on.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Internet Information Services version 5.1.
