MORE INFORMATION

This fix introduces a new registry key to control how the information store handles Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) fidelity. In messages that are formatted for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), the attachment name is an element of the MIME header. By default, the information store tries to maintain the fidelity of the MIME content. However, when the attachment is replaced by a virus scanning API scanner, the MIME header is not updated with the new attachment name. If you create the DisableFullFidelity registry value and set it to 1, the information store rebuilds the MIME header of messages to reflect the new attachment name.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To create and set the DisableFullFidelity value:
  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
  2. Locate and click the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem\InternetContent

  3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:

    Value name: DisableFullFidelity
    Data type: REG_DWORD
    Radix: Decimal
    Value data: 1

  4. Quit Registry Editor.
