SYMPTOMS

In Internet Explorer, you cannot close the Trusted sites, Restricted sites, or Local intranet sites dialog boxes (on the Security tab of Internet Options, click either the Trusted sites or Restricted sites icon, click Sites or Local intranet, click Sites, and then click Advanced). Nothing happens when you press the TAB key to select OK or Cancel, nor does the ESC key close the dialog box.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you use certain keyboard shortcuts to remove a Web site from the Web sites list.

For example, you experience this behavior when you do the following:
  1. In the Trusted sites or the Restricted sites dialog box, select a Web site in the Web sites list.
  2. Press TAB, and then press ENTER to remove the site from the list.
If you now press TAB or ESC, nothing happens.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, press ALT+F4 or click OK to close the dialog box.

To avoid this problem, press ALT+R to remove the selected site from the Web sites list.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
