Intermittent Problems When You Play Media Content in the Media Bar (308077)

After you install Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, you may see intermittent problems when you play media content in the Media Bar.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur in the following situation:
- You install Internet Explorer 6.0 but you do not install the Windows Media Player 6.4 component.
-and- - You configure Internet Explorer 6.0 to play media content in the Media Bar.
When you configure Internet Explorer to play media in the Media Bar, you are prompted to automatically download and install the latest version of Windows Media Player. This version of Windows Media Player is designed to be installed over an existing copy of Windows Media Player 6.4.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps.
Step 1: Determine the Version of the Quartz.dll File
To determine the version of the Quartz.dll file, follow these steps:
- Quit all running programs.
- Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
- In the Named box, type quartz.dll.
- In the Look in list, click My Computer, and then click Find Now.
- Right-click Quartz.dll, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu.
- Click the Version tab, and then note the number next to File version.
If the Quartz.dll file version is less than 6.01.05.0130, Windows Media Player 7.x has been installed without Windows Media Player 6.4 present.
Step 2: Install the Windows Media Player 6.4 Component
If the file version of Quartz.dll is less than 6.01.05.0130, install the Windows Media Player 6.4 component. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Click Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Tools, and then click Add/Remove.
- Click Add a component, and then click OK.
- In the components list, click to select the Windows Media Player check box, and then click Next.
- Click Finish to restart the computer.
