Visio2000: Divider Line Moves into Text When You Resize Boxes or Change Font in Org Chart (308015)

SYMPTOMS

When you create an organization chart with the Organization Chart Wizard in Microsoft Visio, the font and box sizes are fixed. If you change the font or resize the boxes, the divider line may move into the Name or Position text.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Modify the Chart

  1. In Visio, open the organization chart.
  2. Use one of the following methods to select the boxes in the chart:
    • To select all the boxes, press CTRL+A.
    • To select multiple (but not all) boxes, click a box, and then hold down the SHIFT key while you select other boxes.
    • To select a single box, click the box.
  3. On the Format toolbar, type the new size for the font in the Font Size box, and then press ENTER.
  4. On the Organization Chart menu, click Options.
  5. To remove the divider line, click to clear the Show divider line in shapes check box.

    NOTE: This change applies to all boxes, not just selected boxes.
  6. In the Box size area, adjust the width and height of boxes as needed.

  7. Click OK to apply the changes.

Modify the Organization Chart Stencil

To modify the Master shape of each "Organization Chart Shapes" stencil that you use in your organization chart, follow these steps:
  1. In Visio, close all open files.
  2. On the File menu, click Open.
  3. Browse to the Program Files\Visio\Solutions\Organization Chart folder, click Organization Chart Shapes.vss, click Original in the Open section, and then click Open.
  4. Right-click the shape that you want to edit, and then click Edit Master.
  5. Make any changes to the font and font size.
  6. Repeat steps 4 through 5 with each shape that you want to modify.
  7. Close each open shape window, and then click Yes when you are prompted to update the shape.
  8. On the File menu, click Save, and then click Close.
  9. Re-create the organization chart.

    The divider line is adjusted for the font size of each shape.
