Content Management Server: Installing Site Builder on Windows NT 4.0 (307951)

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade from NCompass to Content Management Server 2001, the current client base of Windows NT 4.0 Workstation is now supported. However, you will still receive an error message stating that you are below the supported operating systems platform (specifically the Site Builder Tool and the WEB Authoring tool), even though these tools do work on Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, and Macintosh.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use a "nocheck" flag with the client installation program:
  1. To apply the nocheck flag, you must first unpack the client installation. While you are running the original client installation, a collection of files (Setup.exe and data files) are unpacked into a temporary folder.
  2. Save a temporary copy of the installation program (Setup.exe and other data files) in another folder. Note that the temp files disappear as soon as the client installation exists.
  3. While you are running the client installation, you should see something similar to a "pft1~tmp" folder under the folder that is specified in the "temp" variable. Save a copy of the entire "pft1~tmp" folder somewhere else. When you exit the original installation, the temp files should be gone.
  4. From a command line prompt, run the Setup.exe program from the saved folder with a NOCHECK command.
With this nocheck flag enabled, the installation program should skip any prerequisite check, including the operating system, and enable you to install Content Management Server Site Builder.
