SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP-2), your computer may appear to stop responding (hang) after restarting, and then you receive an error message similar to the following:
Cannot find C:\Windows\Temp\ixp000.tmp\OQFE7082_client.msp

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Microsoft Outlook update OQFE7082_client.msp does not reside at the expected location.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps.

WARNING: You must reinstall Office 2000 and all Office 2000 updates after you perform steps 1 through 3.
  1. Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.

    NOTE: For information about how to obtain the Windows Installer CleanUp utility, see the "References" section of this article.
  2. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Install CleanUp.
  3. Click to select the Office 2000 product, click Remove, and then click OK to confirm removal of the product.
  4. Reinstall the Office 2000 product.
  5. Install Office 2000 SP-2 and any updates that you previously installed.

    NOTE: To install Office 2000 SP-2, your Office 2000 installation must be at the SR-1/SR-1a level.
