The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Plus! for Windows XP
This article was previously published under Q307692 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to convert licensed audio files in Microsoft Plus! MP3 Audio Converter, you may experience the following behavior:
The status of the conversion is listed in the Conversion progress box as Failed, and you receive the following error message:
Conversion completed.
0 of number files successfully converted. For more information on the failed conversion, click Error Details on the status screen.
When you click Error Details, you receive the following error message in the Details section:
The file cannot be converted because of a digital rights restriction. You must have a license from the content provider to copy the file.
You may experience this behavior even if you are issued a license from the content provider to copy the file.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because you cannot use Plus! MP3 Audio Converter to convert audio files that are licensed with Digital Rights Management (DRM) restrictions, even if you obtain a license from the content provider to copy the file. This restriction includes tracks that you copy from a compact disc in Microsoft Windows Media Player with the Protect content option turned on.
The message that you receive in the Details section of Conversion Error Details does not mention that you cannot convert licensed files even if you are issued a license for that file.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
