"Error 1324" Error Message When You Change the Destination Folder During a Custom Setup (307681)

SYMPTOMS

During the custom setup of Microsoft Plus! for Windows XP, when you change the current destination folder and then click OK, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
Error 1324. The path Program Files contains an invalid
character.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you type an invalid destination in the Folder name box on the Change Current Destination Folder screen.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, specify a destination that resides on a local hard-disk drive in the Folder name box on the Change Current Destination Folder screen.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft Plus! for Windows XP must be installed on a local drive on your computer. However, it cannot be installed on a local 3.5-inch disk drive, nor on a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
