Game Voice: Faint Static When You Use Game Voice Headset (307656)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft SideWinder Game Voice
This article was previously published under Q307656 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to use the Microsoft SideWinder Game Voice, you can hear only faint static.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur when all of the following conditions are true:
- You have speakers connected through the cable hub in the Game Voice control pad.
- The speakers are digital speakers.
- The sound card is configured for a digital signal output.
The Game Voice headset cannot interpret digital signals.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
- Confirm that the speakers are digital only. Consult your speaker documentation for more information. If possible, configure the speakers to accept analog signals.
- Open the software for your sound card. Consult your sound card documentation for more information.
- In the options for speakers or output, change the option for digital audio output only to analog, apply the changes, and then close the sound card program.
- Attempt to use the headset.
If the speakers cannot be configured to use an analog signal, and there is only one sound card output, you will have to either use the speakers with digital output or use the headset with analog output.
