drive, you may receive the following error messages in both Visual Studio 2005 or Visual Studio .NET Setup and
the Windows Components Update: "Microsoft Visual Studio
.Net Windows Component Update
SETUP FAILED
The
following components failed to install:
Microsoft FrontPage 2000 Web
Extensions Client Setup Runtime Files Microsoft Visual Studio .Net
Setup Failed
There were errors during setup."
The setup log named Baserrorlog.txt displays the following error message for
the Microsoft FrontPage 2000 Web Extensions Client and Setup Runtime Files
components:
The system cannot find the path specified.
During the Visual Studio portion of the Setup routine, Setup
fails shortly after you receive the End User License Agreement screen. The
following information appears in the setup log named VSMSILog*.txt:
MSI (c) (D4:00): MainEngineThread is returning 3
CAUSE You cannot install certain Windows Update components and
Visual Studio components from a mapped drive. RESOLUTION Use the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) to install Visual Studio 2005 or Visual Studio .NET.STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft
products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
