SYMPTOMS

When a Windows XP client recalls a migrated file from a Windows 2000-based Remote Storage Server (RSS), the client does not receive a file recall notification message. This may make it difficult to determine if the recall is happening or when the file recall is complete.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) or later on the Windows 2000 RSS server. To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To determine if all of the files have been successfully recalled, view the Windows 2000 volume that the recalled files reside on, and press F5 to refresh the view. If the icons for the recalled files no longer contain the small clock in the corner, they have been successfully recalled.

NOTE: Any file that is still migrated will contain a decorated icon that displays a small clock in the corner.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
