Supported Devices for Notifications

Mobile Information Server generates notifications that are formatted for devices that can receive Short Message Service (SMS) messages, such as a pager or cellular phone.

Supported Devices for Synchronization

The Server ActiveSync feature of Microsoft Outlook Mobile Access lets users synchronize data with their Microsoft Exchange 2000 server by means of Mobile Information Server. This feature requires a Microsoft Pocket PC 2002-based device that has the Server ActiveSync software update installed.

Supported Devices for Browser

A complete list of tested and supported devices for use with Mobile Information Server 2002 can be found at the following Microsoft Web site: The following Wireless Application Protocol (WAP)-compatible devices are supported, but have the following known device-specific functionality issues:
  • Device: Siemens C-35i
    Known Issues: When you are browsing Outlook Mobile Access with the Siemens C-35i through a gateway other than Openwave (Phone.com), for example, the Nokia Artus WAP Gateway 2.2, you can only view information. You cannot send mail, create tasks, and so on.
  • Device: Siemens S-35i (M-35i)
    Known Issues: When you are browsing Outlook Mobile Access with the Siemens S-35i (M-35i) through a gateway other than Openwave (Phone.com), for example, the Nokia Artus WAP Gateway 2.2, you can only view information. You cannot send mail, create tasks, and so on.
  • Device: Siemens S40
    Known Issues: When you are browsing Outlook Mobile Access with the Siemens S-40 through a gateway other than Openwave (Phone.com), for example, the Nokia Artus WAP Gateway 2.2, you can only view information. You cannot send mail, create tasks, and so on. Browsing with the Siemens S40 also causes some special characters to be displayed incorrectly.
  • Device: Siemens SL45
    Known Issues: When you are browsing Outlook Mobile Access with the Siemens SL45 through a gateway other than Openwave (Phone.com), for example, the Nokia Artus WAP Gateway 2.2, you can only view information. You cannot send mail, create tasks, and so on. Folder names that contain certain international characters are truncated so that only the characters up to the international character are displayed. The folder name may also disappear when it is selected.
  • Device: Nokia 3330
    Known Issues: When you are browsing with the Nokia 3330 through a CMGv2 WAP gateway, some international characters are displayed incorrectly.
  • Device: Nokia 7110
    Known Issues: When you are browsing with the Nokia 7110, some international characters are displayed incorrectly.
  • Device: Nokia 8310
    Known Issues: When you use Outlook Mobile Access with the Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Data Provider and try to open mail or perform actions on a mail item in a folder that has a long name, it may not work, and you may receive the following error message:
    Page cannot be accessed
  • Device: Motorola 7382i
    Known Issues: When you are browsing Outlook Mobile Access with the Motorola 7382i through a gateway other than Openwave (Phone.com), you can only view information. You cannot send mail, create tasks, and so on. Also, some international characters are displayed incorrectly, and when you try to log on to an account with a password that contains international characters, the logon attempt does not work.
  • Device: Ericsson T29
    Known Issues:When you are browsing with the Ericsson T29, some international characters are displayed incorrectly.
  • Device: Ericsson R320
    Known Issues: When you are browsing Outlook Mobile Access with the Ericsson R320 through a WAPLite v1.10 SP3 WAP gateway, you cannot use international characters when you change your password. If you enter international characters when you change your password, you can no longer log on.
  • Device: Ericsson R380
    Known Issues: When you are searching the Global Address List or Contacts folder, if the search string is long and requires the screen to scroll, you cannot press the Search button. When used with the Ericsson v4 WAP gateway, Outlook Mobile Access with the Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Data Provider may time out when you are browsing to folders that have very long names.

    NOTE: To work around this issue, remove the characters at the end of the string until part of the Search button is visible without scrolling.
  • Device: Ericsson R520m
    Known Issues: When you are browsing Outlook Mobile Access with the Ericsson R520m, you may experience the following issues:
    • The URL address remains at the top of the screen.
    • Certain characters that are not recognized by the device are removed.
  • Device: Sony CMD Z5
    Known Issues: You receive an error message after you change your password when you are using Outlook Mobile Access with the Sony CMD Z5. To fix this problem, you must turn off the device, turn the device back on, and then browse to Outlook Mobile Access again.
  • Device: Sony CMD J5
    Known Issues: When you use the Sony CMD J5, you experience the following issues:
    • You receive an error message after you change your password when you are using Outlook Mobile Access. To fix this problem, you must turn off the device, turn the device back on, and then browse to Outlook Mobile Access again.
    • Certain characters that are not recognized by the device are removed.
    • When you try to locate a mail folder whose name contains mostly international characters, you cannot locate it, and you receive the following error message:
      An unknown error occurred. Exchange 2000 Server Data Module, 0x8FF109D5.
The following browser-specific issues are known to cause the following functionality issues:
  • Browser: Openwave (Phone.com) v4
    Known Issues: Devices that are running an Openwave (Phone.com) browser version that is earlier than 4.1.23 experience POST failures when they are running against a non-Openwave (Phone.com) WAP gateway. You cannot use these devices to send mail, create tasks, and so on. Devices that are running version 4.1.23, including the Motorola P280, do not experience this issue.
The following WAP gateway-specific issues are known to cause the following functionality issues:
  • Gateway: Ericsson 1.1
    Known Issues: All devices receive false error messages when you send information such as mail, create tasks, and so on, using HTTPS to an Ericsson 1.1 gateway.
