Patch Available for USB Isochronous Data Transfers Issues (307271)

SYMPTOMS

You may experience one or more of the following problems in Windows XP:
  • When you are listening to audio over Universal Serial Bus (USB) speakers, you may hear a pop. This may occur from every few seconds to every few minutes.
  • When you are connected to the Internet via an USB modem, you may encounter data transfer errors or even lose connection during heavy transfers.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because frames are being dropped on the USB bus during isochronous data transfers. This may affect functionality of any USB device using this mode of data transfer.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has released an update to address this problem. You can apply a software update either during or after Windows XP Setup.

Apply Software Update During Windows XP Setup

To prevent this issue from occurring when you upgrade to Windows XP, click Yes, download the updated Setup files (Recommended) in the Get Updated Setup Files dialog box during Setup, and then click Next.
