The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q307261 SUMMARY When you save your publication as a group of Hypertext
Markup Language (HTML) files in Microsoft Publisher 2002, Publisher does not
generate an Index.htm file. Many Internet service providers (ISPs) require an
Index.htm file as the default Web page when you publish a Web site to their Web
server.
This article explains how to publish your Web site
(consisting of Publisher-based HTML files) to an ISP Web server that requires
an Index.htm file. MORE INFORMATION In Publisher 2002, when you click Save as Web
Page on the File menu, Publisher saves your Web publication with the following
default name where x is a number. In addition,
Publisher creates a Publication x_files folder. This
folder contains your content files, which include graphics files, as well as a
Filelist.xml file that lists all the files in your Web publication.
Publisher does not generate an Index.htm file when you save your publication as
a group of HTML files. If the default page name used by your ISP's Web server
is Index.htm, you must change the name of your publication from the default
name, Publication x.htm, to "Index.htm" when you save
your publication as HTML files. Specifically, you must create a new folder in
which to save your HTML files, and then save your publication as Index.htm in
the new folder. To do this, follow these steps. NOTE: The default page name used by your ISP's Web server may vary.
For example, the default page set on the Web server may be Index.html rather
than Index.htm. To determine the correct name to use for your Web publication,
contact your ISP.
- Start Publisher, and then open your publication.
- On the File menu, click Save as Web Page.
- In the Save as Web Page dialog box,
specify a location in which to create a new folder.
- Click Create New Folder.
- In the New Folder dialog box, type a name for your new folder, and then click OK.
- In the File name box, type
index.htm, and then click Save.
The folder that you created now contains the Index.htm
file and the Publicationx_files folder. Both the
Publicationx_files folder and the Index.htm page
must be uploaded to your ISP's Web server for your Web publication to be
displayed on the Internet.
