SYMPTOMS

NOTE: The update that is described in this article is superceded by the update that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

319632 Device Manager Hangs After You Remove a USB Camera

Your portable computer may stop responding (hang) when you try to resume it from standby. This problem may occur under the following conditions:
  • Your computer is compliant with the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) specification.
  • Your computer is connected to a port replicator that supports Universal Serial Bus (USB).
  • You connect a USB camera to the port replicator before you suspend the computer

CAUSE

When the computer resumes, the USB camera port driver (Stream.sys) blocks when a system routine incorrectly queues a power-management I/O request packet (IRP) instead of forwarding it to the USB hub driver (Usbhub.sys). System threads that handle power IRPs must not block.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
