New versions of the MSDN Library do not integrate with Visual Studio 6.0 products (307189)

SUMMARY

As of the January 2002 edition of the MSDN Library, the Library no longer integrates into the Visual Studio 6.0 integrated development environment (IDE). Pressing F1 or utilizing the Help menu in any Visual Studio 6.0 product does not automatically start editions of the MSDN Library released after the October 2001 edition. When you try to access Help from Visual Studio 6.0, you may receive the following error message:

The January 2002 edition and subsequent editions of the MSDN Library are designed to integrate with the new Visual Studio .NET products. The new versions will install side-by-side with previous versions designed for Visual Studio 6.0 for users who need to have MSDN Library integration with both Visual Studio 6.0 and Visual Studio .NET.

For example, you can retain the October 2001 version of MSDN Library for use with Visual Studio 6.0 but also install the January 2002 version for use with Visual Studio .NET.

The reason for this change is the migration to the Hh2.exe control used by Visual Studio .NET and away from the Hh.exe used by Visual Studio 6.0 products.
