SYMPTOMS

When you try to use a Microsoft Windows 2000 driver installation file (.inf) to install an Actiontec Universal Serial Bus (USB) Call-Waiting Modem (Model UM100) on a computer that runs Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional, Windows XP does not recognize the modem.

CAUSE

This issue can occur because the Windows 2000 .inf file does not list any modem models. As a result, Windows XP does not recognize the modem.
