Computer Stops Responding During Snap Phase of System State Backup (307072)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
This article was previously published under Q307072 SYMPTOMS
When you try to use Windows Backup to make a backup copy of a computer's system state, the computer may stop responding during the Snap phase, while Windows Backup is gathering critical system data from the computer.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because the Snap phase does not work correctly unless you have at least one NTFS file system volume on the computer. The system resources that are locked by the Snap phase are released, but it may take as long as an hour for the computer to start responding again.
This behavior can also occur if you save the Windows Backup file on the system start (boot) volume.
STATUSThis behavior is by design.
