WD2000: Word Does Not Respond When Proofing a Document That Has Text in Several Languages (306976)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the spelling checker to check the spelling of a document that contains Spanish text, Word closes without an error message, or you receive an error message similar to the following:
Winword.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being generated.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • The text contains the word "of" formatted as Spanish.
  • You are using the Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1) version of the Spanish proofing tools.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).
