Fatal System Error Occurs After pcAnywhere Installation on Windows 2000 (306951)

SYMPTOMS

After installing Symantec pcAnywhere version 9.xx on a Windows 2000-based computer, you may receive the following error message when you restart the computer:
STOP c:000021a (fatal system error)

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, obtain and run the Symantec file that provides compatibility with Windows 2000:
  1. Go to the following Symantec Web site:

    http://www.symantec.com/search/

  2. In the search window, type "pcAnywhere 9.0 and Windows 2000" to gain access to the knowledge base article that identifies the necessary update file, 921up.exe, and then download the file.
  3. Restart the computer in Safe mode, and then run 921up.exe.

MORE INFORMATION

This error should not occur if you specify the LiveUpdateOption when you install pcAnywhere.
