Computer Hangs After You Remove the Second Battery (306889)

SYMPTOMS

When you eject the second battery from a device bay, your Advanced Power Management-enabled computer may stop responding (hang). If you reinsert the battery, your computer may return to normal operation.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if the Apmbatt.sys component is not properly tracking the state of the battery you ejected.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
