SUMMARY

When you use Exchange System Manager to create a new public folder, or if you use Microsoft Outlook to create a new public folder, the public store limit settings are applied to the Maximum Item Size limit setting and the Prohibit Post limit setting on the new public folder. However, if you open the public folder's properties, and then click the Limits tab, the Use public store defaults check box is not selected.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior is by design. The settings that are displayed on the Limits tab of the store database properties are applied to all of the folders that you create (these are the default settings).

When you use Exchange System Manager to create a new public folder, and then click the Limits tab, the Use public store defaults check box is not selected. If you click OK or Apply for the initial settings, the public store limits are still applied.

Additionally, if you click to select the Use public store defaults check box, click Apply, click to clear the Use public store defaults check box, and then click Apply, the public store default limits are still applied.

You can only override the public store default settings if you set the Maximum Item Size limit and the Prohibit Post limit. To override and to remove the public store default settings completely:
  1. Enter new public folder restriction values for the Maximum Item Size limit and the Prohibit Post limit, and then click Apply.
  2. Clear the values for both limits, and then click Apply.
After you complete this procedure, the Maximum Item Size limit and the Prohibit Post limit override the store defaults; these limits have no restrictions.
