FIX: ActiveX Controls for Replication May Cause Access Violation with More Than 256 Articles in a Publication (306816)

SYMPTOMS
Initiating snapshots for a replication publication using the Snapshot Agent ActiveX control with status events may cause an access violation (AV). The access violation halts the snapshot generation, and can cause the application running the control to shut down. This problem is only encountered when creating a snapshot for a publication that contains more than 256 articles.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the

HotfixNOTE: The following hotfix was created prior to Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 2.

NOTE: Due to file dependencies, the most recent hotfix or feature that contains the preceding files may also contain additional files. WORKAROUND- Do not use the status events functionality when generating snapshots by way of the Snapshot Agent ActiveX control.
- Try to break publications that contain more than 256 articles into separate publications.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 2000.
This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 2.
